Implement the Child Safe Standards At Your Workplace

Drawing from 50 years’ of child protection experience, our expert team can help your staff to understand what the new standards mean and create a custom child safe solution that works for your organisation.

Now mandated under NSW laws, the ten standards provide a benchmark against which organisations can measure their child safe capabilities and demonstrate how they are putting the interests of kids at the heart of everything that they do.

The standards also incorporate the existing NSW child safety framework, including the Reportable Conduct Scheme, Working With Children Check and other reporting obligations to the Police and the Department of Communities and Justice. Child-related organisations must ensure that these systems, policies and processes are continuously reviewed and updated.

What do the Child Safe Standards mean?

Simply put, the Child Safe Standards mean that all NSW organisations that provide services to kids must now develop and enact a suite of child protection measures. This includes:

  • a statement of the organisation’s commitment to child safety

  • a child safe policy

  • a code of conduct

  • a complaint management policy

  • a human resources policy

  • a risk management plan.

Our Program Offerings

  • We facilitate face-to-face or online workshops introducing the Child Safe Standards, along with other key child protection protection concepts such as understanding mandatory reporting requirements; recognising early warning signs of maltreatment; and responding to potential disclosures in a supportive manner.

  • This entails a site visit, staff survey, policy audit and delivery of a “traffic light” report that sets out clear and easy to follow recommendations on how an organisation can ensure best practice in the implementation of the Child Safe Standards, as well as all other child safeguarding obligations.

  • Once CAPS is satisfied with the implementation of our CAPS Health Check recommendations, we will certify an organisation as a Child Safe Leader for a 24-month period. During this time, CAPS will provide expert support for any child protection issues that may arise.

Our Approach

  • Strengths-based

We build on whatever previous child protection work your organisation has already undertaken and empower staff at all levels to become Child Safe Leaders.

  • Flexible

We provide only the services that are relevant to your organisation’s unique needs and goals.

  • Accountable

All of our work is underpinned by almost 50 years of experience delivering evidence-based, award-winning child protection programs.

  • Place-based

We utilise your organisational structure to drive change from within. Any new policies and processes created by CAPS are owned by your organisation and will complement the existing staff and culture.
